NCS National IT Whizkids Competition Guidelines for Secondary Schools - 2018

The Nigeria Computer Society, NCS National Information Technology Competition for Private and Public Senior Secondary Schools[SS1 - SS3] Calls for Entry. See Application Form Guidelines and Procedures, Syllabus for State, Zonal and Grand Finale Stages 2018.

The National Information Technology Whizkids Competition is open to students in Private and Public Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Computer Society considers the Competition as a development process and encouragement of excellence amongst secondary school students across the country, who are the future leaders of this great nation.


Guidelines for participation:
Interested Secondary Schools should complete the registration form online for two (2) candidates with evidence of payment of N2, 000.00 (Two thousand naira only per school) registration fee. Only students from SS1 to SS2 are eligible to participate.

3. The basic computer concepts of computers. Operations performed by the computer
4. Types of computer: Digital, Analog and Hybrid
5. Types of memory and storage
6. Classification of modern computers: In terms of size, type of data processed, processing power and purpose
7. General characteristics of modern computers
8. Hardware and its components on the computer system. Computing devices and computer peripherals (examples and their uses)
9. Software and its components on the computer system:Definition and types (examplesand their uses)
10. Operating System (OS): Introduction, types and classifications
11. Booting process
12. Computer Ethics
13. Computer attacks and crime. Hackers, Cyber Gangs, Crackers, Virus Authors, Spies.

14. Computer Networks: Definition,types and concepts
15. Database Concept: the meaning of data, information, Table, field, andrecord

17. Computer laboratory management: organization, preventive measures and best practices
